ABSTRACT

An investigation on causes of high rate of dropout in secondary school in Nigeria. This study is aimed at identifying and investigating the causes of high rate of dropout in secondary school in Nigeria. In carrying out the research, one hundred and fifty copies of questionnaire containing twenty questions each were distributed to respondents. Literature was reviewed along the following sub-headings: (i) socio-economic background (ii) educational level of the parents (iii) psychological factor (iv) needs for guidance and counseling in secondary schools (v) attitude of the parents (vi) other factors. The research design for the study is descriptive survey carried out ex-factor. The research area is Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. the population used for this study were the three educational zones in Ebonyi State. The instrument for collection of data was researcher’s made questionnaires. It is organized along the scale of agree, disagree, strongly agreed and strongly disagree. All the copies of the instrument was administered personally by the researcher with the help of source trained assistance.
